Shanaz Chowdhery is an operations executive with a deep passion for education. She began her career as a Teach For America corps member and taught 5th and 7th-grade math in Ward 8 in Washington, DC.
In early 2014, Shanaz joined General Assembly, a leading global education company specializing in today’s most in-demand skills. Starting in admissions, she later served as the regional director for the Washington, DC region from 2015 to 2018, overseeing campus strategy, operations, and growth.
In 2018, Shanaz joined Vemo Education as a general manager and now serves as chief of staff, working to help schools advance strategic objectives. Throughout her career, Shanaz has pursued two main missions: democratizing access to high-quality education and optimizing inefficient business processes.
Shanaz was the first in her family to attend college, and she earned her bachelor’s in sociology with honors from Yale University. Shanaz joined the Byte Back Board in 2019 because she firmly believes that education is the strongest vehicle of social and economic mobility, having experienced its transformative power firsthand.
