Take a Journey to 1997: The Birth of Byte Back

Twenty years ago, Barbara Altman and Glenn Stein’s vision came to reality when Byte Back opened.

The timing was right. In 1997, many Washington, DC residents were struggling with a lack of opportunity. People like Craig came to Byte Back afraid of computers and left with skills and a career.

Today, take a leap back 20 years.

Special thanks to Barbara Altman for graciously sharing her story with the Byte Back community and for her continuing support of the organization.

Special thanks also to our generous partners at NCTA – The Internet & Television Association and the NCTA Foundation for making this video possible – Kristin for organizing, Sam for setting us up, and Vadim for your dedication of an entire Friday and patience in filming, teaching us, and editing. You made this storytelling project possible.
